IV Hydration Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is IV Therapy?

IV hydration therapy involves the insertion of an intravenous catheter into one’s vein for the purpose of administering intravenous fluids, medications and other additives. Fluid administered via IV access hydrates clients more effectively than oral or other routes, which results in feeling better quicker.

2. Are there any medications or medical conditions that would prevent me from getting an IV?

Yes, some medications and certain medical conditions are not appropriate for IV hydration therapy and some will require a Letter of Medical Clearance from your prescribing provider. Please contact the office with any questions regarding your medications or medical history. Discuss your plans to start IV hydration therapy with your physician and obtain the required Letter of Medical Clearance prior to your initial visit, if necessary.

3. Are there age restrictions on IV hydration therapy?

Yes. Patients must be at least 18 years of age. If you are 65 years or older, you will need to obtain a Letter of Medical Clearance from your primary care provider prior to your initial visit or before you turn 65 if you are currently being treated with us. Everyone must provide a government or state photo ID at the initial visit.

4. I have high blood pressure. Can I get an IV?

Your pulse and blood pressure will be taken before the IV is started. We require the systolic BP (top number) to be greater than 80, but less than 160 to be a candidate for IV hydration therapy that day.

5. Who is IV hydration therapy recommended for?

We recommend IV hydration when you are showing signs of dehydration, such as decreased or dark urine, dry/sticky mouth, increased thirst, dry skin, general weakness, headache and more. We also recommend IV for those who are dehydrated from illness, and those do intense athletic training.

6. What conditions can IV hydration therapy help with?

IV hydration therapy can help reduce the symptoms of many illnesses such as migraines, fibromyalgia, arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, IBS, menstrual cramps, depression, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and more. IV hydration therapy can also help with recovery of hangovers, jet lag, athletic training and more.
