Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are there any medications or medical conditions that would prevent me from taking Phentermine?

Yes, some medications and certain medical conditions will require a Letter of Medical Clearance from your prescribing provider. Please contact the office with any questions regarding your medications or medical history. Discuss your plans to start Phentermine and a weight loss program with your physician and obtain the required Letter of Medical Clearance prior to your initial visit, if necessary.

2. Are there alternatives to taking Phentermine?

Yes! If you do not qualify or are not interested in taking Phentermine, we offer several alternative options that aid in weight loss. From Vitamin B-12 injections, and lipotropic injections, to our line of metabolism-enhancing supplements inclusive of probiotics, minerals, vitamins and botanicals, our patients can choose from a varied selection of natural weight loss solutions.

3. Is there a weight restriction?

Our program is intended for those who are overweight or obese. Your BMI must be greater than 25.0 to qualify for a Phentermine prescription. You can calculate your BMI here.

4. Are there age restrictions on taking Phentermine?

Yes. If you are 65 years or older, you will need to obtain a Letter of Medical Clearance from your primary care provider prior to your initial visit or before you turn 65 if you are currently being treated with us. If you are 17 years old, you may be seen with a parent or guardian present. Everyone must provide a government or state photo ID at the initial visit.

5. I have high blood pressure. Can I take Phentermine?

If your blood pressure is well controlled, you may take Phentermine. Phentermine can increase blood pressure so be sure to take your medication as your provider prescribed it and to regularly monitor your blood pressure. If your blood pressure is greater than 140/90, do not take Phentermine. If your blood pressure is greater than 140/90 in the office at any visit, Phentermine will not be prescribed.

6. How often can I be seen?

We recommend you follow up every four weeks for an evaluation and to refill your Phentermine prescription. It must be at least 25 days in between Phentermine prescription refills. We recommend injections weekly.

7. I live far away, can I get a three-month supply?

Some returning patients may be eligible for a 90-day supply of medication, but certain medical guidelines must be met. Click here for more information or you may call the office.

8. What are possible side effects when using Phentermine?

Side effects may include restlessness, nervousness, irritability, difficulty sleeping, increased heart rate and palpitations, increased blood pressure, dry mouth, constipation or blurred vision. If they continue or are bothersome, follow up with your primary care provider.

9. What should I do if I miss a dose?

Take it as soon as possible. If it is after noon, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. NEVER take two doses at once.

10. Can I take Phentermine while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. Phentermine is a Category X drug and is contraindicated and cannot be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you do become pregnant, stop taking the Phentermine immediately.

11. Can I drink coffee or alcohol while taking Phentermine?

Caffeine, alcohol and decongestants (Sudafed or Pseudoephedrine) should be avoided while taking Phentermine because they increase unwanted side effects such as dizziness, increased heart rate and blood pressure, irritability and sleeplessness.

12. How much weight will I lose in a month?

This is dependent upon how much effort each individual patient puts into changing their lifestyle and eating habits. A healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week or 4-8 pounds a month.

13. I have to take a drug test for work, will this show up?

Phentermine may show up as a false positive for an amphetamine in a drug test. Although it is not an amphetamine, the chemical structure is similar. We are able to provide a letter stating that you are under medical care with a prescription for Phentermine at your office visit.

14. Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept any insurance at this time. Payment is due at time of service. If requested, we will provide you with a “superbill” which you can use to request reimbursement from your insurance provider.

15. I have friends who want to change their lifestyle as well, do you offer a referral program?

Yes! Refer a friend and both you and your friend will receive an additional $10 off your visit. If your friend comes in without you, make sure they leave your name and birth date at the checkout desk so we can give you credit at your next visit.
